People Magazine-October 24, 2011

On Tuesday I was excited to get my People Magazine so early, usually it arrives with Friday's mail.  When I sat down to read it I discovered that my issue has some misprinted pages.  At the beginning of the magazine pages 23-34 repeat and 35-46 are missing and then towards the end is the same thing 77-88 are missing and 89-100 repeat.  I emailed the company and am awaiting a response.  I actually asked to have the issue replaced because there were things I wanted to read in the missing pages.  I asked my neighbor if I could borrow her issue but she had the same problem with hers.

The article about Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry was missing, the reviews of new movies and of course more.  Of what I read I thought the book about the woman who creates things with her cats shed fur sounded a bit odd.  I bet it is interesting, but at the same time it takes crazy cat ladycrazy cat lady to a whole new level for me!  The most inspirational story for me though was Storm Williams who donates books to soldiers.  He is featured in the Heroes Among Us profile for the week.  I found the site today but haven't really looked into it much.  This is a cause that is close to my heart as well.

So I guess I forgot to mention the featured article about Steve Jobs.  Up until yesterday I didn't own anything made by Apple, but I finally made the jump and bought an Ipod for running.  Setting it up took me longer than I think it should, but I've been having fun playing with it since!

In Touch Weekly September 12, 2011

Today as supposed to be the second day of school for my older children, but heavy rains caused flooding in our area and school was cancelled.    Because of that I ended up having to take all four kids to the grocery store with me.  My plan had been to go to work today and then do errands tomorrow, but I had to flip flop them and take everyone due to our Flood Day.  Usually I can walk by all the magazines in the check out and resist the urge to buy one, but 45 minutes to an hour of having to say no to everything from donuts to Pringles my defenses were down.  I have to admit I was tricked by this cover.  The first thing I thought was, "Oh my, Jennifer Aniston got married?".  Turns out the magazine just thinks she is planning a wedding due to unnamed close sources.  I won't hold my breath for that one.

In other mostly useless news and such, I have to say that I still believe that Will and Jada Pinkett Smith probably have a marriage that is doing just fine.  Romance onscreen is acting and if it is done really well, viewers almost want to believe that it is real, but usually it isn't.  Not so sure about Katy Perry's pink hair, it does kind of look like cotton candy.  I loved seeing all the cute kids with wild hair.

I wonder if Jessica Simpson is really as worried about her weight as she was portrayed.  Over the course of the years she has gone up and down and if she is really happy who cares if she could be thinner.  On the opposite end of this were the stars of Glee being shown at more healthy weights.  Does showing them super skinny help people see a more realistic, while still much thinner than average, or does it just make people think they should strive for the barely there figures?

I was a bit disturbed by the gender neutral model who is male but models both clothes for women and men.  He looks so androgynous I don't think I would have known he was a man if it hadn't said so.  Lastly, I am very much looking forward to the finale of TrueBlood this weekend.  I will be sad to see it end, but can't wait to see how it all wraps up.

People Magazine: September 5, 2011 Issue

I used to read a ton of magazines, but lately that hasn't been the case.  My guilty pleasure is usually reading People once a week, but I have totally fallen behind on my issues.  Books, the pool, the beach, TV series have all gotten in the way.  I decided if I posted about the issues it would give me an excuse to read through them.  Think of all the celebrity news I have been missing for the past month or so!  Here is what I learned or thought about as I read this issue:
1.  The boy who wrote the picture book about the seizure sniffing dog to raise money to get a dog ($13,000) and then also shared money with other families is inspiring.
2.  Kim Kardasian had a beautiful wedding that will be a TV show, but I think she could learn something from the boy raising money for an actual need.  Who needs three dresses to wear at their wedding?  Gorgeous, over the top, probably will be well viewed on TV, but seems too much so.
3.  Carrie Fisher is doing great with her weight loss.
4.  Did not know that Elizabeth Banks had a baby five months ago.
5.  Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are having baby number three,
6.  Rose McGowen's family belonged to the same cult that River Phoenix and his family were once a part of.
7.  I don't listen to the radio nearly often enough as so many groups are unfamiliar to me.
8.  The book on Jane Fonda is going on my TBR list.
9.  The picture book about the little girl going on a diet might have better been titled something along the lines of getting healthy and then there would have been less fuss.
10.  All those people who worked to make school happen in Joplin, Miss. are heroes.

I'm sure I missed a bunch, but it was uplifting to read about people making a difference in the lives of others because they wnated to and not becuase they were getting anything out of it.
