Eternal by H.G. Nadel

Book descrition from Amazon.com:
Julia Jones is an eighteen-year-old science prodigy with a big secret. After landing a prestigious internship with brilliant but eccentric Dr. Caleb Bertel, she is finally ready to move on from her mother’s death. But after Julia revives Dr. Bertel from a near-fatal electrocution, strange things start to happen.

Without warning, Dr. Bertel disappears. Then Julia receives threatening notes on her car, and someone has her followed. The young police officer assigned to the case, Austin Moore, believes the events are connected and asks her to help him solve the mystery of Bertel’s disappearance. Instantly attracted to him, Julia agrees. Still, she knows that she has seen Austin somewhere before, if only she could put her finger on it.

Will Julia uncover the mystery of Bertel’s disappearance before it’s too late, and does she dare trust Austin with her heart?

My thoughts:
I received this book for review purposes from TLC Book Tours.  I have really cut back on how many books I accept for review purposes, but this one looked interesting so I was glad to have the opportunity to participate.

I loved how Nadel worked in science, relationships, existence of souls, and past lives into one storyline and plot.  Julia is still dealing with the death of her mother from cancer and is living on her own while working an internship for an eccentric scientist.  One day he accidentally electrocutes himself and she has to revive him with a defibrillator.  After that strange things start to happen.  He acts erratically and disappears for them the hospital, Julia is attacked when she goes to see her mothers grave at night, she starts to have dreams featuring Austin, the detective assigned to the case, but not as himself but as a French Philosopher many years ago.  Her boyfriend Tyler and her best friend Nadia start acting strangely towards her and blame Austin for the changes.  No one seems to grasp the magnitude of what is going on.

I wasn't sure how Nagel was going to handle the past lives and present lives and the intersection of the past and present, but she pulled it off in a very satisfying way.

    2. Thank you for this! I actually downloaded "Eternal" for my Kindle Fire, and I absolutely loved it! The story takes your breath away and you just can't put the book down. It reads well and fast. I wanted more when I finished it. So question: Is there a second book, and is a movie coming out? I think I read that somewhere.
