It was hard to get a good picture of this little guy, but we tried. I am not sure if it is a praying mantis or a stick bug.
We were leaning towards it being a Praying Mantis, but the pictures we found when we looked quickly online were all green.
Anyway, he was our unusual siting of the day along with a frog that hopped way too fast to get a picture of but who got the kids running to try to catch it!

I'm pretty sure it's not a stick bug, unless there are different varieties. You could Google it for conformation.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a praying mantis. He is pretty camouflaged, though.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is. We've had some biting insects in our garden this week - resulting in some nasty bites!
ReplyDeleteI have bug kids too, and then I became a bug mom.
ReplyDeletePraying Mantis' are the only bugs I know of that have those odd front legs. I think they can be brown or green. Looks enormous; you're brave for getting that close!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Saturday Snapshot for the week. Happy Saturday!
Beats me! But how interesting looking they are. What a fun experience for you and the kids.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a praying mantis! I tried to get a good picture of one that was much smaller a few weeks ago -- it isn't easy! Great pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteI vote for it being a praying mantis - and quite a large one at that!
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful picture, whatever it is! I want to be a praying mantis, because we don't have them here!My Saturday Snapshot is very brief this week but it's sad - a site where lepers once lived http://goo.gl/TkmQ7
ReplyDeleteI also vote for a praying mantis - great close-up shot!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a praying mantis. We get them quite a lot around here. Great shot!
