Currently reading...

So I guess I shouldn't have bothered to post what I was going to be reading because somehow putting it in print has made it untrue. The past two nights I've been reading from Cravings which is an anthology with four stories. I read the one by MaryJanice Davidson first and it was such a nice piece of fun called Dead Girls Don't Dance. It is part of her series about Betsey the Vampire Queen from her Undead books. I think I'm current with the Undead series but missed the shorter works that appeared in anthologies. Although I enjoyed this one very much I didn't like how vapid and superficial Betsey seemed. Normally the books are told in the first person from Betsey's POV and I like her, seeing her through someone elses eyes made her less likable. Then last night I started the first story by Laurell K. Hamilton titles Blood Upon My Lips. I still have a bit to go but it also seems kind of light and relaxing. It took me a few pages to catch on that it was part of the Anita Blake series, her name isn't even mentioned until page 22 although I did figure it out before that. I've only read the first two books in that series so most of the characters are totally new to me. I'm planning to read to the end to see what I think.

I have three books out of the library, Jodi Picoult's Handle with Care, Nora Robert's Vision in White and sTori Telling by Tori Spelling that I need to finish before they are due since I won't be able to renew them. I have five books borrowed from friends and family: the two Vampire Dairies one I mentioned before (books 1 and 2), Gatecrasher by Madeline Wickham , Dark Slayer by Christine Feehan and Taming the Scotsman by Kinley MacGregor, I have a book to review and discuss on Barnes and Nobel for next month The Postmistress, there are 2 books coming in the mail and Diana Gabaldon's latest saga of Jamie and Claire is coming out on Tuesday. I have so much to read that I feel sort of stuck, which doesn't make sense at all. I love to read and will enjoy them all, but it is like my brain is on overload and doesn't know where to start. Do I pick what appeals the most, what has to be given back soonest, whatever I touch first? Or do I grab a magazine from the towering pile that has been so ignored lately and forget the books?

  1. You might smack me, but have you read the Twilight series? Also, you have to let me know what you think of Jodi Picoult (she was at Fleetwood Library last year when we lived in Berks County but I didn't meet her). I have a bunch of friends who love her stuff! I know that there was a Lifetime Movie made of one of her books, so I stayed away from her for the longest time, but that might just be TV-movie-of-the-week prejudice, LOL.

I know what you mean about being mentally swamped by books. I can't stop putting things on hold at the library, so I'm trying to tackle my second Wilkie Collins novel (I read a lot of 19th century British literature) "The Moonstone" (great so far), the second in the series of "Abram's Daughters" by Betsey Lewis (just discovered her stuff by some friends' recommendations...pretty good, we'll see) and then finishing "Dreamhunter", which I thought was by Sherrilyn but it's by Elizabeth Knox and is part one of the "Dreamhunter Duet". Books, books, books! Will they get read while the guys are in Germany? Doubt it, LOL!

  3. Ahhh, I'm clogging up your blog - you DO read Twilight! I just saw it on Shelfari. ;o) I'm positively addicted to that series. Ed's being dragged to "New Moon". Poor Libby and Grace will be spending the night with my parents. Ed's less than thrilled. I may be going alone, LOL.

  4. Did you get him to go see Twilight with you? Chris went with me and actually ended up liking it more than I did! Jodi Picoult is really good, I've read three of her other books and liked them all. I watched the movie after having read the book (The Tenth Circle) and the books was SO much better but the movie wasn't terrible. I liek to read Nora Roberts and this year I read all the books before the Lifetime movies aired (for the first one I decided the night before and managed to read it all by show time) and for all of them the books were better. I guess 2 hours or less just isn't long enough to get a whole book in there. Have you gone to see The Time Traveler's Wife yet? I can't see how it will be as good as the book especially since they put out in the press stuff that they changed the ending.

  5. When I get Hush, Hush back from my neighbor I'll have to lend it to you. It reminded me a lot of Twilight but was also so good I couldn't put it down!
